Weekend Roundup: Three Entertainment Stories You Need to Know

From Wentworth Miller’s dark secrets on coming out to Charlie Hunnam’s girlfriend’s reaction to his role in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’ read about what you might have missed over the weekend.

Wentworth Miller’s Past Suicide Attempts Prior to Coming Out

Wentworth Miller—the hunky lead in Prison Break and screenwriter of Stoker—revealed at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner in Seattle, WA on Sept. 7 in a moving speech that he had attempted to commit suicide multiple times since he was 15. The actor, now 41, had just come out last month in a letter to the St. Petersburg International Film Festival in response to the Russian anti-gay laws. He described how painful it was to be a closeted actor in Hollywood and wanted to be a role model for himself. (His recent actions will no doubt make him a positive role model for others.) [TMZ]

Bruno Mars to Perform at Superbowl XLVII Halftime Show

Yes, Bruno Mars definitely has some big shoes to fill. We’ve had supernova acts like Beyoncé, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, Prince, and Bruce Springsteen perform at past Superbowl halftime shows, and it was announced over the weekend that Bruno Mars, 27, will be the main act for Superbowl XLVII on Feb. 2, 2014. Although the retro crooner has only had two album releases, he’s been performing since he was four, so hopefully that means for an entertaining performance from a pop-music veteran. Charlie Hunnam Finally Speaks on ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Role

Charlie Hunnam is pretty aware his role as lead character, Christian Grey, in the book-to-film adaptation of steamy romance novel, Fifty Shades of Grey, is huge. In an interview with reporters over the weekend during the season six premiere of FX’s Sons of Anarchy (where he also takes the lead role as Jax), he revealed how he had long discussions with director Sam Taylor-Johnson about portraying a kinky businessman before agreeing to take on the part. He was afraid it would be difficult to do since he was committed to shooting Sons of Anarchy, but Taylor-Johnson even pushed back filming of Fifty Shades of Grey to accommodate Hunnam in giving him more time to prepare for the role. As for his girlfriend, jewelry designer Morgana McNelis’ reaction to him shooting such steamy scenes with another woman? Hunnam said that she “was really excited about the potential of the opportunity for me.” [The Hollywood Reporter]
